Bad way of starting a new year

The neverending conflict between Palestinians and Israel (or the other way around, as you prefer) made for a very sad begining of 2009.

As someone said once, killing each other's sons is an extremely bad way of trying to solve conflicts. This particular one started forty years ago and something tells me it will remain running for even longer.

Anyway, let's try to keep the hope.

Happy new year everybody.

  1. Sadly, conflict has been a staple of that region since well before the state of Israel was recognized in 1949. Indeed, conflict has abounded in that region since before the time of Christ.

Call me naive, but if countless wars over thousands of years have failed to quell the vitriol that has festered between the two primary inhabitants of this "Holy Land," why should this latest incarnation of this eternal conflict be any different? I know that this smacks of Utopianism, but can't these people simply share the land? After all, there is plenty for everyone!

  2. Yeah, unfortunately I'm afraid you are right, my friend. It's hard to guess how a conflict like this will be solved, one day.

And no, it seems that sharing land is not simple at all, at least for them.

Which means we will continue watching tragic pictures and films on magazines, newspapers and tv. And all that, in a land that has been considered traditionally as the land of their god. What a sad irony.
